Former DAP member Hew Kuan Yau has been appointed the CEO of the Malaysia-China Business Council (MCBC).
MCBC chairperson Tan Kok Wai who is also the DAP national chairperson, said Hew’s appointment was to “to further promote the businesses of the council (and to) strengthen the business cooperation between Malaysia and China.”
Tan, said Hew was an expert on China given his “decade-long business management experience” in the country.
He added that Hew had a good grasp of international diplomacy.
Hew supposedly quit DAP in July 2016 after receiving criticism over a Facebook post stating that the South China Sea belongs to Beijing.
Popularly known as ‘Superman’ for wearing attire sporting the comic book hero’s logo, Hew is viewed as a divisive figure due to his fiery and sometimes profanity-laden speeches.
Hew claimed in last year that DAP needs to use Malays to “screw” the Malays before the general election.
Most people interviewed expressed shock by the decision to appoint Hew who is looked as “rude and uncouth”.
“He is the last person who should represent Malaysia! What if he is vulgar in China? Our relationship with them is already bad due to DAP.”, said one Chinese man who declined to be named.
“DAP couldn’t find someone else ? After all the talk about meritocracy this is what they come up with?” asked another.
Some see Hew’s appointment as a diversion tactic employed by DAP due to increasing dissatisfaction from Malaysians who voted for Pakatan Harapan, including DAP’s own supporters.
