Kuching: Santubong Parliamentarian Wan Junaidi Wan Jaafar reminds the chosen Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates that they are here to serve the people of Sarawak and it is his fervent hope that they will be the torchbearer for GPS and continue their legacy of serving the people.
Wan Junaidi, who is also the de facto law minister said the task that lies before each one of them is daunting and it is a huge responsibility, one that must be carried out without fear or favour, with fairness, and justice for all.
“You have been handpicked by Sarawak Chief Minister (CM) Abang Johari Openg in consultation with the party leaders. That is a great honour.
“The call to service is indeed a noble one. To serve demands the deepest of convictions, unshakeable integrity, selfless sacrifice, and a purity of the soul that transcends race, creed, colour or religion,” he said in a statement Friday (03 Dec) in response to the 82 GPS candidates that were named by the CM.
Adding on further, he said in them, the chief minister and the party leaders see the best that this great state has to offer.
“You represent our best and brightest, our greatest hopes for what we want Sarawak to become.
“In you, lies all that is good, the ideals and aspirations of this blessed state. To betray that trust, would only do great harm to the Sarawak that we all love,” he added.
Wan Junaidi also reminded the candidates that the CM’s vision for Sarawak is comprehensive and inclusive.
“At the forefront is the socio-economic development of Sarawak, and her people, you are that instrument of change, and as such, your task – of serving the rakyat – will be huge.
“Lastly, on the campaign trail, let us remember to always conduct ourselves with pride and honour so that in your victory, you will be worthy of the title, ‘Yang Berhormat’. I wish you all, the best of luck,” he said.
Meanwhile, to the aspirants and incumbents who are not nominated by GPS as candidates, he said they should not feel they are not important to the coalition.
He said there are many ways that they can work together in the spirit of solidarity to help and support those who will be contesting in the state election on 18 Dec.
The four-party GPS coalition on Friday (03 Dec) announced the names of its 82 candidates for the coming 12th state election with a few surprises.
Nearly 30 per cent of the candidates, or 24 people, are first-timers for the election. – New Malaysia Herald
