Mohd Izhar Ahmad is the second Bersatu rep to quit the party ahead of the upcoming state polls.
Former Larkin state assemblyman Mohd Izhar Ahmad has announced his resignation from Bersatu ahead of Johor polls, citing that he had lost confidence in the party president Muhyiddin Yassin.
Speaking at a press conference today in Johor Bahru, the former state exco member also called for voters to give their support to Barisan Nasional (BN), saying that it is for the sake of political stability in the state.
“I am not going to defend my Larkin seat nor participate at any other seat in the upcoming state election.
“In my opinion, Muhyiddin did not only fail to bring the party to a better position, but he also did not make any effort to heal the party after the split with Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s camp,” he said.
Izhar also said the decision to quit Bersatu was made with a heavy heart, after the party which he had supported all these while had lost its direction and failed to walk through the objectives of its establishment.
This come after Tebrau Bersatu division chief Mazlan Bujang, who is the former Puteri Wangsa state assemblyman, quit the party and declared support for BN on Thursday (27 Jan).
Mazlan said 22 members of the Tebrau Bersatu committee were following him in quitting Bersatu and pledged their support to Umno’s (caretaker) Menteri Besar Hasni Mohamad to lead Johor again for the sake of political stability and the future of the people.
Mazlan also urged all Bersatu members and supporters to do a self-reflection and support the leadership of Hasni and BN in the upcoming state election.
Johor State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on 22 Jan and the Election Commission will meet on 09 Feb to set the dates for snap polls. – New Malaysia Herald
