Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), one of the leading universities in the region, has earned the prestigious gold award in the Education and Learning category at the Putra Brand Awards 2021, a reflection that it is the country’s best brand in higher education.

This is the university’s inaugural win of the gold award – a testament and reflection that it is recognised as the consumer’s best brand in higher education by Malaysians.

The Putra Brand Awards is synonymous with the people’s choice awards as the jury is made up of a panel of 11,000 Malaysian consumers.

Commenting on the award, UTP Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said: “We are truly honoured and pleased to have been chosen for this award. The accolade is a reflection of our commitment to deliver the best in education.

“It also reinforces the belief that we are building our brand in the right direction at every level for our stakeholders – students, parents, sponsors and collaborators,” he said.

Other notable awards and recognitions garnered by UTP include being ranked as Malaysia’s number one private university and second overall among all institutions of higher learning in the country in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022 and in the THE Emerging Economies Rankings 2021.

Its academic programmes are consistently recognised as some of the most reputable globally. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in the 2021 World University Rankings by Subjects, for example, ranked both UTP’s Petroleum Engineering and Mineral & Mining Engineering subjects at Top 50, Top 150 for Chemical Engineering, Top 200 for Civil Engineering and Top 250 for Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

In addition, UTP has retained its six-star rating (the highest performance level) in MyRA for its research development and commercialisation programme.  The university has also achieved a six-star or outstanding status in SETARA for its teaching, research and services. – New Malaysia Herald
