RMAF Chief, General Tan Sri Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan, the 20th Chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), took his final bow today in a grand send-off ceremony at Subang Air Base after 42 years of distinguished service.
Eighteen aircraft soared through the skies in a powerful tribute to honour General Asghar’s unwavering dedication and leadership in the armed forces, especially within the RMAF.
The flypast featured an impressive lineup: two SU-30MKM fighter jets, three F/A-18D Hornets, three C-130H transport aircraft, one A400M Atlas, five PC-7 MKII trainer aircraft, and four EC-725 AP helicopters. These aircraft flew in precision formations as part of a ceremonial salute to the outgoing Air Force chief.

New Defence Assets for RMAF
In his farewell address, General Asghar announced that the RMAF is set to bolster its capabilities with several new defence assets arriving in phases from October 2025 until the end of 2028.
“We are currently in the process of acquiring Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), FA-50 Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA), advanced air defence radars, and new helicopters. These platforms will significantly enhance our ability to protect Malaysia’s airspace,” he stated.
He also highlighted efforts to strengthen RMAF’s human capital through advanced training programs. “We’ve invested in sending our officers and personnel for both local and international training to ensure they are fully equipped to operate and manage these systems professionally and effectively.”
A Sterling Military Journey

General Asghar’s military journey began on 18 July 1983, as a cadet officer at the Royal Military College. He earned his wings as a fighter pilot in 1985 and went on to hold various critical leadership roles including Commanding Officer of both No. 19 (MiG-29N) and No. 11 (SU-30MKM) Squadrons, Base Commander at Gong Kedak, and ultimately rising to the highest position in the Air Force. Prior to his appointment as RMAF chief, he previously served as the Deputy Chief from January 2020 to March 2022
