Kuala Lumpur – Police will investigate a book launching event attended by Democratic Action Party (DAP) veteran Lin Kit Siang and Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) co-founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman for breach of Covid-19 SOPs.

Earlier, an image of Syed Saddiq, Kit Siang and writer Kee Thuan Chye on stage without face masks went viral over social media.

“We will investigate the matter under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342),” he said in a text message on Wednesday (12 Jan).

The event held at the Sogo Convention Hall was the launching of Kit Siang’s biography titled “Lim Kit Siang: Malaysian First” written by Kee.

Syed Saddiq, who is also the Muar parliamentarian, was a panellist at the event while former Deputy Prime Minister Musa Hitam was a guest.

On Tuesday (11 Jan), Noor Dellhan in a statement said, his men were also investigating an event attended by former prime minister Najib Razak over claims that there was a breach of Covid-19 SOPs.

Investigation of the event started after an image was shared on Twitter by user @Knowledge9701, showing attendees without face masks.

“The criminal investigation division has opened an investigation into an event held at Jalan Tun Ismail, Chow Kit in KL, where some individuals did not wear face coverings.”
