Malaysians To Vote For New Government On 19 Nov

Nominations on 05 Nov and only two weeks of campaigning period allowed by EC

KUALA LUMPUR — The long-anticipated Malaysia’s 15th general election (GE15) is set for Saturday, 19 Nov and early voting on Tuesday, 15 Nov.

At a press conference today (20 Oct), Election Commission (EC) chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh also announced that nominations would be on Saturday 05 Nov.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament on 10 Oct, paving the way for GE15, despite objections by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) lawmakers due to flood concerns and calls for a focus on economic recovery post Covid-19.

The same dates will also apply to the Bugaya by-election in Semporna, Sabah.

Abdul Ghani also said the state-level elections in Pahang, Perak, and Perlis would also be held on Nov 19, with nomination likewise on Nov 5.

Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah, which are under PAS, as well as Selangor, Penang and Negeri Sembilan, under Pakatan Harapan, choose not to dissolve their assemblies.

A total of 21,173,638 registered voters will be eligible to vote in this GE15.

The party or coalition that wins a simple majority of 112 seats out of 222, will form the next government. — NMH
