Rosmah Welcomes Acquittal: ‘Justice Has Prevailed’

In what she sees as a wonderful birthday present for her, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, cautions against “playing around with justice” and says that everyone should be accorded justice. She attributes her victory to her lawyers who, from Day One, have assured her that there are no basis for the charges.

KUALA LUMPUR – Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor expressed her relief and gratitude following the High Court’s decision to acquit her of 17 money laundering and tax evasion charges.

“This is what I call justice,” she told reporters at a press conference after the ruling. Rosmah emphasised that justice should never be compromised, stating, “Justice should never be played with— not just for us, but for the public as well.”

Defective Charges

Rosmah’s lawyers successfully argued that the charges were defective and lacked essential elements, depriving her of a fair trial. High Court judge K. Muniandy ruled that the charges were illegal and flawed, leading to Rosmah’s acquittal. “To put it simply, we are absolutely thrilled, delighted, and thankful for today’s decision. Justice has finally been served,” her lawyers said.

Rosmah, the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, had faced a lengthy legal battle over the past six years. She described the acquittal as a meaningful birthday gift, as December also marks her birthday month. “Let me rest now, breathe a bit. Alhamdulillah,” she added, expressing her gratitude.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Rosmah maintained her innocence and consistently claimed that the charges were politically motivated. She expressed her hope that the acquittal would help restore her reputation and allow her family to move forward from the ordeal. “I hope this decision will clear my name and help us rebuild our lives,” Rosmah stated.

Rosmah Says Its A Triumph Of Justice

The case has attracted significant public and media attention, with many Malaysians closely following the developments. Rosmah’s acquittal has sparked a range of reactions, with supporters celebrating the verdict as a triumph of justice, while critics remain skeptical about the legal system’s integrity. “This ruling reinforces my belief in the judiciary’s independence and its commitment to upholding justice,” Rosmah remarked.

Looking ahead, Rosmah plans to focus on her personal life and spend more time with her family. She expressed her desire to stay out of the public eye and avoid further controversies. “I want to live a peaceful life and cherish moments with my loved ones. It’s time to move on,” she concluded while adding that this is a victory for ‘Bossku’, referring to her husband Najib who is currently serving a jail sentence and fighting umpteenth legal battles and for justice.

Rosmah’s line-up of impressive lawyers were Datuk Firoz Hussein Ahmad Jamaluddin, Amer Hamzah Arshad, Mohamed Reza Rahim, N Rajivan. The prosecution was led by Ahmad Akram Gharib who was later reported to have said that they would appeal against today’s ruling by Judge Muniandy. – NMH
