100k Ecstasy Pills Smuggled From Malaysia Seized In Riau

Ecstasy pills were meant for use in Jakarta nightspots

Two suspects were arrested by Riau police with more than 100,000 Ecstasy pills, said to be smuggled from Malaysia.

According to Antara News, the pills were smuggled through a small harbour in Riau Province early this morning, quoting the West Jakarta Police head, senior commissioner Pasma Royce.

The success came following a tip-off from a Jakarta ecstasy user who was arrested earlier.

The information yielded the seizure of 101,355 pills from the suspects, aged 31 and 40, who were picked up from separate locations.

The Hunt Is On

Investigations revealed that the pills, packed in 22 plastic pouches were supposed to be brought to Jakarta to be distributed in Jakarta night clubs.

“We also seized crystal methamphetamine weighing some 72.86 grams in a plastic and ready to be distributed and also 46.35 grams of hashish in a plastic,” Royce said.

The duo who were brought to Jakarta had admitted to be couriers on five occasions and paid Rp3 million (RM907) per pouch.

Police are now hunting the main perpetrators who smuggled in the drugs, they said.
