PETALING JAYA: Deputy Federal Territories Minister, Edmund Santhara who is under fire for leaving the country during MCO, has returned from New Zealand.
FMT reports that the Segamat MP returned last week and is currently under home quarantine.
Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa and Santhara’s private secretary, Muhammad Effi Arpan, confirmed the matter.
Effi said Santhara returned last week and is working from home.
“He will only attend physical meetings after he has completed quarantine,” he was quoted as saying.
Santhara has come under fire after it was revealed he had obtained approval for 55 days of leave to travel to New Zealand to be with his family and sick wife, making netizens cry ‘special privileges’ at a time when borders are closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a response on social media, the former PKR member said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had approved his application for leave, and denied he had left during the movement control order period, stating he departed on 23 Dec and was quarantined until 09 Jan. – New Malaysia Herald
