Tengku Zafrul’s appointment is a strategy to win in the next general election
SHAH ALAM – Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz is the new Selangor Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer replacing Jamal Md Yunos who was appointed the communications director.
The appointments are with immediate effect The appointment letters were presented to the appointees by Selangor BN Chairman Noh Omar, witnessed by BN Chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the closing ceremony of the coalition’s convention at Setia Alam on Sunday (31 July).
Jamal who is also Sungai Besar Umno’s chief held the treasurer post since 2019 and last month, he announced his hopes to relinquish the post to make way for Tengku Zafrul.
“My wish to hand over the treasurer post to Tengku Zafrul was accepted by the Umno leadership as it did not contravene the BN and Umno constitutions”.
“They respect my decision after explaining in detail my intention was sincere and have looked at every aspect as part of the transformation process in the top Selangor BN administration,” he said.

Jamal added that putting Tengku Zafrul in the top management of Selangor BN will not just strengthen the financial management but also help BN win in the next general election.
According to Jamal, the decision by Zahid and Noh to allow him to relinquish the post was also because he had carried out his duty effectively over the past three years.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Noh for my appointment. The new portfolio will allow me to effectively strategise for Selangor BN.
“I would like to congratulate and welcome Tengku Zafrul who is officially now in the Selangor BN and Umno,” he said.
